The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is delighted to announce the successful launch of the MRCP(UK) PACES examination in Aga Khan University’s Medical College (AKU), Nairobi, Kenya. This is the first location in Sub-Saharan Africa to offer the exam and the 25th MRCP(UK) international PACES centre. This follows the introduction of the MRCP(UK) Part 1 written exam in October 2018.

We are pleased to announce that the General Medical Council (GMC) has approved our proposed changes to the MRCP(UK) PACES examination.
Dr Ken Dagg, Medical Director for Assessment said "Approval from the GMC is a welcome outcome and endorses our plans to ensure that our clinical examination continues to reflect the best clinical practice and maintains the highest levels of validity and reliability."

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is delighted to announce the successful launch of the MRCP(UK) PACES examination in Hyderabad, India. MRCP(UK) is the largest international clinical examination in the World. Forty one trainee doctors undertook the examination between the 2nd and 4th November.

It has been an interesting and enjoyable five years with candidate numbers continuing to grow substantially around the world. I have been particularly pleased that we have reduced the cost of some of our examinations, developed new examinations for European specialists, and taken MRCP(UK) into new partner countries, including the USA. The clinical examination remains a great strength and I hope that the changes made in the PACES 2020 project will maintain its relevance and continue to drive the acquisition of core bedside skills.

This builds on the learning and success of quality criteria for core medical training in 2015.

We wish to advise that the MRCP(UK) PACES examination at Musgrove Park Academy, Musgrove Park Hospital, due to take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 March 2018 has been cancelled. South West England has been escalated to a red weather warning which is a ‘risk to life’ snow warning. This decision has not been made lightly but we have a duty of care to our candidates, patients and examiners and for their own safety we cannot ask them to travel in such adverse weather.

The report is a development of an on-going process to try and improve postgraduate medical education and training in the UK and builds on previous published quality reports. It attempts to objectively review the current state of the quality of physicianly training provided within the UK.

The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK relies on many organisations and individuals to give up their time and resources in the delivery of PACES every year. In recognition of this commitment, we have developed the new PACES Champion award.  One UK and one international recipient will be chosen each year from nominations. Nominations can be made by anyone who is involved in PACES including MRCP(UK) staff, Chairs and Hosts.
Nomination can be made under one or more of the following criteria:
