Research team

The research team is responsible for written examinations’ results, standard setting and project management with other exam teams. The team is a key point of contact for complex queries and reporting on examination performance. We collect evidence and inform widely so the quality and high standards of our examinations are maintained. We also collaborate on research and contribute to publishing papers on a variety of topics related to written and clinical examinations.
The research team attends conferences and meetings regularly contributing information and data. Below is a list of events attended by the team.
Event Heads of Examinations Conference – Sharing good practice
Event description    The conference is organised on an annual basis with the aim to provide a platform for discussion and networking for Royal Colleges’ representatives. Presentations on a number of areas including assessment fairness, methodology and patient input.

Event Annual European Board of Medical Assessors (EBMA) ConferenceTransformative assessment - “Making the strategic use of assessment meaningful for learning”
Event description EBMA was created to cross boundaries in assessment, recognising that in medical education, as in so many things, we are linked by our commonalities rather than our differences.

Event                      BMA Medical training: Fair for all? Differential attainment in postgraduate training
Event description Presentation by Dr Kath Woolf and discussion about differential attainment and challenges presented by the ethnicity gap in medical education.

Event                       Researching Medical Education Conference  - ASME
Event description Researching Medical Education is a one-day conference for all those interested in medical or clinical education research
as an academic discipline.
The conference is designed and run by the Association for the Study of Medical Education. The day is structured into parallel sessions and led by internationally
renowned keynote speakers, there are discussion groups, research method workshops for new and more experienced researchers and a master class for those
studying for higher degrees.
Date 21-23 June, 2017 - Exeter
Research contribution A workshop was hosted by MRCP(UK), Imperial College and UCL representatives on the different designs of medical assessments
(“New directions in the format of knowledge-based examinations: challenging the consensus”).

Event                       The Council for European Specialists Medical Assessment – CESMA Conference
Event description  CESMA (Council of European Specialist Medical Assessment) has a role to promote harmonisation of European Board assessments, provide guidelines to
the Boards on the conduct of assessments, encourage take up of Board assessments as a quality mark and to offer an alternative to National assessments, where appropriate
